MORTISE: A recess on a minimum of 3 sides of a hardware item closely surrounding the contour of the
item allowing its faceplate to finish flush with the door or frame finished surface.
MORTISE PREPARATION: For hardware, a cutout recessed into a door or frame, which may include,
drilling and tapping.
